CHRISTOPHER SUAN
President, Senior Managing Director
Chris Suan is President and Senior Managing Director at ORIX Capital Partners (“OCP”). Mr. Suan is responsible for sourcing, evaluating, executing and managing investments as well as overseeing the strategy and management of OCP. Mr. Suan is also the Chair of OCP’s Environmental, Social & Governance (“ESG”) Committee.
Prior to OCP, Mr. Suan was Chief Development Officer at ORIX USA. In this role, he was responsible for developing and implementing business development strategies designed to promote sustainable growth and investment value for the firm.
Mr. Suan joined ORIX from Kohlberg, Kravis Roberts & Co., LP (“KKR”), where he served as Managing Director, creating and then leading the firm’s Asia Credit group. While there, he originated corporate and asset-backed investments across a variety of industries, including energy and natural resources, shipping and real estate.
Prior to KKR, Mr. Suan served as President and Chief Investment Officer for Acquisitions and Credit Fund Development for Matlin Patterson Asset Management, a $7 billion alternative asset management firm in New York. In that role, he was responsible for making and managing GP acquisitions, raising capital for hedge funds and investing in Asia-based private equity. While there, he created an integrated corporate and real estate credit hedge fund platform via the acquisition of four leading credit investment teams with experience in long and short credit, senior syndicated bank loans, ABS trading and non-control distressed funds. Before that, Mr. Suan served as Chief Investment Officer at Suan Capital Advisors and D.B. Zwirn & Co.
Earlier in his career, he was a portfolio manager investing in high yield bonds for Kidder Peabody & Co., Bankers Trust Company, and Banc of America Securities.
Mr. Suan earned an M.B.A. from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and a bachelor’s degree in History and Economics from Yale University (cum laude).
